06:23 pm - London wrapup; hand of the tournament London was a very successful tournament. We pulled in around 40, and Pat was the leading point winner in the 0-1500 category. She got a nice printout to rub in the faces of the Bermudians. It sounds like she wants to do another tournament in October.
Best hand of the tournament: Board 18; NS Vul, E dealer

My partner opened 2C in first chair. South passed, I bid 2H (negative). North decided to stick in a little lead-director of 2S with an easy escape to 3D if necessary. Pard made the practical call of 3N, thinking 9 tricks on a spade lead would be easy. South lifted to 4S. I doubled, asking partner to not bid any more, but he did... 5H. This got passed around to North who thought he had three tricks, and doubled. I thought that I had a great hand on the auction, and threw out the blue card. With the diamond ace onside, twenty hearts (by me) made for +1000.
At the other table, East opened a super-heavy 4H, passed around to Buffalo sitting north. He made the impressive/insane bid of 4S. East, feeling guilty about having so much to spare, raised himself to 5H. Pat, sitting south, lifted to 5S. Buffy now thought he had an awesome hand, and re-raised to 6S, doubled by the big hand. Twelve spades didn't have as much play as twenty hearts. I believe he can get out for down one double dummy, but he went -500 for a very entertaining win 11.
This weekend I'm playing at the Williamsburg, VA sectional (with a break Sat night to see Yonder Mountain String Band in Norfolk). Wish me luck.
A week from today I head off for Nashville, TN and the Nationals. GNTs for the first few days, then a few days of KOs, and back home early to set off for the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Current Location: Home
